With advances in technology that are increasingly advanced. We can find various CCTV brands, types, and specifications. CCTV also has a set that is related to one another.
One of these devices is called a DVR and NVR which are used as a place to process and store recorded data from CCTV cameras to be stored on a hard disk, and then sent to the monitor screen.
Wait a minute! In fact, what we don't know is that DVR and NVR are 2 different devices. However, they have almost the same uses. But, what's the difference?
Well, let's talk. The difference between DVR and NVR and how is each used?
Difference between DVR and NVR?
1. Number of Connected CCTV Devices
The first difference is the number of CCTV devices that can be connected to each device. For you NVR users, you can connect multiple CCTV cameras with the addition of a switch. NVR makes it easy for users to use and monitor multiple cameras in one NVR device. As for CCTV, you cannot connect multiple CCTV cameras in the DVR, limited to only one camera set.
2. Type of Camera Used
The second difference is the type of camera you use. DVR or Digital Video Recorder only allows analog type CCTV cameras attached to the device. Analog CCTV cameras are common types of CCTV cameras that use coaxial cables to operate.
Meanwhile, the NVR or Network Video Recorder device uses a CCTV IP Camera or internet protocol-based camera. This IP camera or digital CCTV camera allows you to access CCTV data from anywhere and anytime using an internet network connection.
3. Image Quality
The third difference is the image quality that each device has. NVR has better picture quality compared to DVR. This is because the NVR uses an IP camera that has a higher resolution. When zooming in, IP cameras generally don't cause blur or quality cracking.
Unlike the NVR, the quality that the DVR produces is below due to the use of analog CCTV cameras. Analog cameras are of limited quality and generally not as clear as digital cameras. When zooming in, usually the image will break easily and the quality is blurry, and even spots appear in the image.
4. Connection
The fourth difference falls on the connections that components use. You can access the NVR directly or in real-time, because it is connected to an internet connection network or LAN. With an internet connection or LAN network, you are free to monitor CCTV cameras and NVR directly from your smartphone, in real-time.
On the other hand, DVR can also be monitored in real-time from a special CCTV monitor screen or television screen. The difference is, you have to connect the DVR with the usual cable, which is a coaxial cable. This cable has a higher price than the cable that the NVR uses. Therefore, users consider NVR to be more dynamic and efficient to use anytime and anywhere.
5. How it Works
The next difference is how each device works. When using a DVR, the video signal from an analog CCTV camera will be converted by the DVR into digital data. This data will later be stored on the DVR's hard disk.
On the other hand, when using an NVR, you will get digital data directly from the CCTV camera without the need to convert it from video signal form.
You can adjust the use of these two devices according to the type of camera you will use, the needs of each place where CCTV will be installed, as well as the availability of funds or the budget you have.
It never hurts to do some research before buying to make sure whether the functions and specifications of the DVR NVR suit your needs and the availability of funds that you have.
If you decide to choose a DVR, make sure the CCTV installation location has a stable electric current to optimize the performance of the device. On the other hand, if you use an NVR, make sure the device has a stable internet network supply for easy access.
